long long day. my butt hurts right now because it’s tired of sitting down. I was literally at that CalSol meeting for 2 hours and a half and although it was truly an awesome meeting, I wish I wasn’t sitting down for so long. but more on what happened at the meeting later
today was one of those really long days that I haven’t had in awhile. since dead week, I pretty much stepped out of the house for ~2hrs tops and then quickly came back home to study/sleep/eat.
but then today, I had a full day because there were a couple of review sessions that I wanted to go to (or needed to go to…) and so it was basically a full day of classes. poli sci review with nina and paul, stats review, and then econ review with christina. annnd to top off the evening, I had the 2 and a half hour calsol meeting.
calsol today was quite an event. we were announcing the new leadership roles, mike projected the new timeline for our upcoming 2014 ASC race, and it was also apparently “senior night”. the new timeline detailed out a very rough and broad outline of what our new goals for the next upcoming year were to be — we were aspiring to build a new solar car that could win the race; a new car that was competitive against university of michigan, and some of the japanese university’s cars since they are mostly the schools who finish #1 or #2. it was a pretty big goal and a lot of the people in the room were on board and even excited about our projected future but some were more cautious and calculating about how feasible the goal should be. I had the courage to say something too, and I said that there should be better communication within the sub-teams and holding people more accountable for their responsibilities. it may have been a bit of a downer comment but I think our team lead just needs to be more aggressive and better implement himself into the construction of the team dynamic. regardless, I really want to and hope that I can aid in the success of this project. the people in this particular club are just kickass, and I love the vibe, the community, and the overall close-knittness the team can be when we’re collectively pursuing the same goal. I’m happy that I can just be along for the ride.
and then to my surprise, or to a lot of people’s surprise actually, they acknowledged the seniors in the room to come up to the front and say parting words, thank them for all their endless contribution, sweat and tears, time, and passion towards making Impulse a reality. it was so .. touching and heart-felt because although I didn’t personally experience WSC 2011 or was in the club at the time they were trying to build Impulse, I could see the dedication written all over their faces, I could see how much contribution they gave for the team and how much they cared. it was a special moment. I was really glad to have witnessed it. they made their mark on something they loved.
